Rustic Hand-Split Roof Shakes 3/4" x 18" in Milton, Mass

This is the Abe Lincoln Log Cabin at the Forbes House Museum, located at 215 Adams Street, Milton, MA 02186

Was a very nice project to be involved with. The building was redone in the same way it was originally built. The #2 Hand-splits were used on the roof (3/4" x 18"). The early Americans used what they had. They were looking to get through the winter, not last 100 years. Most of the things they built did last many, many years. So to replicate the original building. This is what was done. Pine boards as the roof sheathing. Then a layer of felt, then cedar breather, and then the #2 Hand-split shakes. Looks like it did when it was built, and will last for the next 100 years for all to enjoy.

Was very happy to be asked to be part of this project.
